Project Award Categories
An elementary and secondary award will be given in each technology strand (see entry form) in the following award categories:
- English/Language Arts
- Mathematics
- History/Social Science
- Science
- Other curricular or special emphasis: Fine Arts (Visual Art, Drama, Music); Health/Physical Education; Foreign Language; English Language Development; Bilingual Education; Special Education; Technical Arts; Thematic; Teacher-Produced; Informational; etc.
The 2008 program will also provide an award for the special theme of "Cultural Connections."
Project Guidelines
Deadline: All projects and entry forms must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2008. PDFs with the guidelines may be found at Digital Voice Award Entries under "Resources" to help you with your planning. All applications must be submitted electronically. The Online Application will be available in early February, 2008. Projects may be submitted by online upload or via mail: U.S. Mail or inter-district mail otherwise known as Jet Mail/Blue Bag. If the project is mailed, a printed copy of the Entry Form must accompany the project, which can be sent through school mail/Jet Mail/Blue Bag (except LAUSD), U.S. Mail, or delivered in person to:

Project Completion: Entries must have been created between January 1, 2007 and the entry deadline. Entry materials will not be returned.
Entry Limit: Each teacher may enter a maximum of two student projects or one student and one teacher-created project. Each entry should be submitted separately and its category clearly identified.
Entry Checklist
- I will meet the deadline of 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2008.
- I am entering no more than two student entries or one student-created entry and one teacher-created entry.
- The student work was completed between January 1, 2007 and the entry deadline.
- I have completed the electronic entry form per the directions online at Digital Voice Award Entries.
NOTE: Incomplete entry forms may disqualify the entry.
- I have printed out the online entry form and am submitting it with my technology project.
- This technology project is clearly labeled with the following information:
- Title of Project
- Name of submitting teacher
- Name of student, if independent project
- Name of school
- Name of district
- Curricular Category
- Grade level category (elementary or secondary)
- I have on record parent releases of students whose images appear in this project. I also have students and parent permissions to submit this project.
- In respect to copyright laws, I have received permission for use or given credit and cited all elements (images, music, etc.) of this project that are not original.
Scoring Guidelines
The following areas will be considered by the Digital Voice Award judges with consideration for grade and age level skills:
CONTENT (50%)
The topics, ideas, concepts, knowledge, and opinions that constitute the project are:
- in support of the California Content Standards
- accurate and/or supported with evidence
- organized and presented in a logical, focused manner
- clear and allow viewers to know that the goal of the project and the learning objectives were met
- in-depth and reflect knowledge and understanding of the subject presented.
TECHNICAL/MECHANICAL ELEMENTS (25%)
- All elements of the project (photos, sources, music, writing, etc.) are cited.
- The project works, navigates, and/or runs smoothly.
- Writing is clear with accurate spelling & grammar.
MULTIMEDIA/TECHNOLOGY ELEMENTS (25%)
- The elements used enhance the project and are incorporated in a cohesive and logical way.
- The visual and audio impact is effectively supported by the use of technology and multimedia and contributes to a greater understanding of the information.
- All multimedia and technology elements support clearer understanding of the content presented.
- The project considers and abides by the basic elements of design and production.
- The project encourages student voice, creativity, originality, and expression.
